Low Bermuda can look incredible, but height is a system—not a single number. Your mower, surface, frequency, sunlight, and expectations all have to support the height you choose.
Choose the system you can maintain
A rotary mower generally needs more clearance than a reel mower, while an uneven lawn limits how low either can cut cleanly. Start at a height that avoids scalping and lower it gradually only when density and surface quality allow.
Frequency controls quality
Remove a modest portion of the leaf blade at each cut. If the lawn gets away from you, returning immediately to the old height can expose stems and leave a brown cast.
A slightly taller lawn mowed consistently usually looks better than an ultra-low lawn mowed irregularly.
Sharpness changes the result
Inspect leaf tips after mowing. Torn, frayed ends indicate a dull blade or poor reel setup and can make healthy turf look pale. Keep blades sharp and change direction to reduce grain and compaction patterns.
